Purple Ferret Sweaters And Society

There aren’t many things that carry the societal weight as purple ferret sweaters do.  I personally can’t think of a single thing that has changed as many lives, and the face of the world, that a ferret in a beautiful knit sweater has.  This is an examination of why this happened, and where these ferret sweaters will take us in the future.

Before recorded time, ferrets ruled the mountains of Easter Europe with their brethren, the pole cat.  They were a formidable force in the wild, and a resourceful countryman had the wherewithal to bring a ferret indoors and put it to work.  From there, a long and rich history of gnawing the buttons off of remote controls and hiding in the refrigerator began.

Ferrets eventually migrated to the United States where they would continue their legendary history.  The pastime of ferret-legging began (see video below) and their fame skyrocketed.  Can you stuff a dog or cat down your pants and have as much fun?  I think not!  Dogs chew up shoes, not leave you special prizes inside!

Then the day came when the first purple sweater was knit for these fabulous creatures.  This can be likened to the day the Michael Jordan dawned his first Bulls jersey, the world would never be the same.  Since then, they’ve been to the moon, ran for president, and even found the remains of Jimmy Hoffa.

What does the future have in store for ferrets and their purple sweaters?  I foresee a colony of warm ferrets on Mars, them curing cancer, and being the sole cause of world peace.  They’ll probably end up doing much more than that, but only time will tell.
